To assign a .prj to multiple shapefiles in ArcGIS 9.1 or earlier -

1. Download the script and instructions for its installation. http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=13664

2. From the ArcCatalog tree, select the Export folder with your GPS data

3. In the right-hand pane, click the Contents tab and select only shapefiles

Hint: To list all shapefiles together, click the word 'Type' to sort files by file type. To select more than one shapefile, press and hold the Control key (Ctrl) down and click on the desired files


4. Click the button for the installed VB script

The icon shown in the example was customized when the script was installed. It may differ from the above.

 

5. In the Select Coordinate System dialog box, navigate to Projected Coordinate Systems, Utm, Nad 1983,  NAD 1983 UTM Zone X.prj

6. Click the Add button

7. To confirm the .prj file was assigned, click the Metadata / Spatial tab.
